Dr. Moreau is the best kind of mad scientist. No goofy mad cackling, disturbingly rational explanations for almost everything, etc. It’s even debatable whether he’s actually even insane. Even though he looks nothing like Moreau as described in the novel (i.e., big, stocky and white-haired), Laughton nonetheless captures the “ho-hum” attitude of the character on page and recreates it perfectly on film.
